More International Athletes Join in the 2010 Yangshuo Climbing Festival
More international renowned athletes will join in the 2010 third annual Yangshuo Cimbing Festival held on October 29 to 31. In addition to The North Face®/Black Diamond athletes Yuji Hirayama, Sam Elias and Liu Yongbang (Abond), The North Face® athletes Lisa Rands and Emily Harrington will also join in this year’s athlete pool. Athletes will conduct inter-active clinics bond to their strong points with participants. Further more, Chinese American Wang Lei, the first 7+2 female conqueror will work with Dan Zeng, a Tibet guy who made to the top of Everest 8 times, to deliver a mountaineering presentation. Last but not least, staff from Wilderness Medical Associate, Canada will fly to the Festival to share with their professional knowledge and run a demonstration of first aid.
In addition, volunteering for this year’s Festival is now open for registration. For more info, please logo on: http://www.ysclimbfest.com.cn/team.html。
Yuji Hirayama is one of the best all-around climbers in the world. In 1998 and 2000 Yuji was crowned World Cup Series Champion. Among his other notable accomplishments are 2004’s on-site of White Zombie (8c) in Spain and 2008’s speed climbing record on the Nose in Yosemite. He and partner Hans Florine still hold the record for fastest ascent of the Nose at a blistering 2:37:05.
Although newer on the international climbing scene, Sam Elias has made his mark in nearly all climbing disciplines. Sam has flashed hard sport routes, put up bold trad lines and finished second in this year’s prestigious Ouray Ice Festival.
Liu Yongbang (Abond) is a fixture on the Yangshuo climbing scene and is one of the few Chinese climbers to red point 5.14. In addition to climbing some of China’s hardest sport routes, Abond has traveled to the US to climb cracks in Indian Creek and attend last year’s American Alpine Club's Annual International Climbers Meet and to Singapore to climb up the outside of the Marina Bay Sands Casino during their grand opening.
Lisa Rands beat the best gym-trained climbers in the world in two major events and ended her first year of international competition ranked number one in the world in 2002. She’s dominated the Phoenix Bouldering Contest for the past three years, finishing in 2003 with a score almost three times that of her nearest rival. With her ascent of the spectacular arête, “The End of the Affair,” at Curbar Edge, she became the first woman ever to climb E8.
Emily Harrington started as a member of the USA Junior Climbing Team in 1998 and has been a member of the USA Climbing Adult Team (difficulty) since 2004. In 2007, Emily became the 2nd female American to climb 5.14b and she finished 2nd in the Sport Climbing World Championships in 2005. In 2006, she was named Female Climber of the Year at the Teva Mountain Games as well as the Outdoor Idol Winner.
